Basford United booked place in the second qualifying round of the FA Trophy with a 3-0 over Mickleover Sports.

Liam Hearn opened the scoring before Josh Law’s 38th minute strike doubled the hosts advantage at the break.

Hearn then closed the scoring with just three minutes left on the clock to ensure his side progressed into the next round.

There was just one change in the Basford line up that won 3-1 against Stafford Rangers in the league last time out. Law came into the right back position for Liam Bateman.

The visitors started brightly with a succession of corners but fell behind in the 12th minute. Nat Watson beat his man and drilled the ball into the path of Hearn for the striker to slot it into the back of the net.

Basford were their own worst enemy, misplacing several passes as Mickleover created more chances. Ben Turner fired wide of the target and minutes later Stuart Beavon went close before the hosts went two ahead.

The ball was worked well between several players and ended with Watson squaring the ball to Law for him to tap home in the last real chance of the half.

Like the first half Mickleover created more chances but they lacked any real quality. Jiri Boula headed effort was easily saved by Kieran Preston and his replacement Lee Hughes was just as wasteful with his chances, blasting wide after his chip went over the bar.

Up the other end Basford looked like scoring, Watson had an effort blocked before Hearn had several efforts saved by Mickleover ‘keeper Nathan Broome.

Kane Richards headed just wide from a corner late on before Basford got their third. A corner from the right was controlled by Hearn and he swivelled and fired the ball into the net for his second and his sides third of the game to confirm the win.

Starting XI: 1- Preston, 2- Law, 3- Wilson, 4- Thornhill, 5- Gascoigne, 6- Galinski (Carr), 7- Richards, 8- Chettle, 9- Hearn, 10- Watson ( Walker), 11- Reid ( Thomas)
