UP NEXT: MATLOCK TOWN (A) FA CUP
Matlock Town vs Basford United | FA Cup | 07/09/2019 | Kick Off 3:00pm

LAST TIME OUT:
United picked up a point with a hard-fought draw away to Stafford Rangers. The hosts controlled most of the game and came closest to scoring when a header was cleared off the line by Josh Law. Up the other end Jamie Walker had United’s best chance when his free kick was tipped over the bar by Rangers ‘keeper Lewis King as the game ended goal less.

Matlock came from two goals down to earn a 2-2 draw at home to Grantham Town. Chib Chilaka and Ryan Hall had given Grantham a 2-0 lead. A lead that they kept until the dying moments of the game. With four minutes left on the James Berrett turned the ball into his own net and deep into added time Luke Hinsley grabbed an equaliser to earn Matlock a point.

PREVIOUS ENCOUNTERS:

The two sides met as recently as the 19th August. The game appeared to be heading for a 0-0 draw despite Basford creating the better chances until Pietu Crouz’s bending free kick found its way into the back of the net to snatch all three points for his side.

When the two met at the Proctor Cars Stadium last season the game ended in a 2-2 draw. Goals from Lewis Carr and Nat Watson had Basford two goals to the good until two goals in 3 minutes saw the two level. Craig Wastcarr netted before Michael Williams grabbed the equaliser ensuring his side picked up a point.

THE BIG PICTURE:

A win for Basford will see them stretch their unbeaten run to three games in all competitions and see them progress to the second qualifying round of the FA cup after being eliminated at this stage last season.

A win for Matlock will see them ensure they stretch their unbeaten start to the campaign to seven games and end a run of two games without a win. Like their visitors they are looking to make the second qualifying round after losing at this stage last season.
