Clinical hosts punish United...

BY CALLUM WRIGHT

It was a rough day in Manchester as the Ambers fell to a 2-0 defeat away from home at Broadhurst Park against FC United of Manchester in a game that didn't see much go the way of the visitors .

Dontai Gabidon gave the Reds an early lead that Basford struggled to cancel out, eventually being made impossible by substitute Charlie Ennis' late goal.

it was a tentative start in Manchester as both sides tried to feel each other out. A swift counter attack from a failed Basford free kick gave Gabidon the first good chance, but saw the ball fly over the bar. an even better chance fell for Rev James on the edge of the box, but George Murry-Jones was quick off his line to deflect it.

A messy albeit pivotal breakthrough came in the 12th minute after a failed cutback landed straight back at Gabidon who finished past three marking Ambers at the near post to give FCUOM an early lead.

Basford tried to get back into the game quickly but couldn't find a vital chance to make a dent in the FCUOM defence. Despite several free kicks won and fluid attacking football down the wings, the first half ended with a narrow lead for FCUOM.

Aaron Bennett for FC United' first big chance of the second half, sprinting past the Basford backline to get a clear shot on goal, but put too much power on the shot to trouble Kieran Preston.

The Ambers had a good period of possession, but struggled to breakthrough the Red wall and only landed one speculative shot on target.

The Reds didn't waste their next chance, as Ennis got on the end of a loose ball in the box and fired low past Kieran Preston at the near post in the 82nd minute to wrap up all three points for the hosts.
