Defeat in West Yorkshire...

BY MAX STAIRS

Basford United come away empty handed in a massive clash at the bottom of the table in a 2-1 defeat to Bradford (Park Avenue).

Basford saw a first half equaliser from Matt Thornhill cancelled out with an opposition goal to force the Ambers to walk away empty handed.

Bradford Park Avenue took an early lead with their first effort on goal, as Adrien Thibuat cut inside and drilled it into the bottom left corner.

The Ambers began to find their groove as Jack Waldron latched onto a ball played over the top and found Rev James in the area, but his effort was deflected.

The chances began flowing thick and fast for Basford as Matt Thornhill let fly from a dangerous freekick, his long ranged forced Craig Ellison into action who did just enough to keep it out.

Basford finally got what they deserve in the 44th minute, as Thornhill’s long ranged effort nestled beautifully into the top corner to bring The Ambers back level.

The hosts however found a way back into the game on the brink of half time, with their second shot on target, this time through Ted Lavelle which gave Basford a lot of work to do in the second half.

Basford started the second half with intent as in the 51st minutes, Thornhill played a ball over the top to Jack Thomas, but his effort was caught by Ellison.

A chance to go ahead came from substitute Tyler Dacres in the 85th minute as his header was tipped over the bar in dramatic fashion, but to no avail.
