Dunn and Betts extend stay; Clark and Hinds return for pre-season...

Following the news of Mitchell Tait’s contract on Friday, the club are delighted to announce two more have had current deals extended.

Former Notts County duo Declan Dunn and Owen Betts have put to pen-to-paper for the upcoming season, after manager Mark Clifford opted to trigger an existing option.

Dunn, 21, signed for United from Notts County – for whom he signed a professional contract – back in August 2020, after playing 16 times for Grantham Town.

The astute holding midfielder was the 3rd highest appearance maker in amber and black last season, featuring 42 times in all competitions.

21-year-old Betts has quickly established himself as a firm favourite amongst United fans and, like Dunn, also played on 42 occasions last season.

The versatile player – another who signed on professional terms with the Magpies – made one senior appearance during his time at Meadow Lane and spent some time on loan at Dover Athletic, Spalding United and Worksop Town.

Both players have been exceptional during their time at Greenwich Avenue and Clifford deemed it a new brainer to extend.

Elsewhere, box-to-box midfielder Ollie Clark – who has yet to kick a ball in United colours since his arrival from Carlton Town – and striker Wayde Hines have both been given the all-clear to return to training in preparation for a full pre-season.

The highly rated Clark moved from the Millers back in February last year but suffered a serious knee injury that curtailed his entire involvement with the club.

Hinds came through our reputable academy system and was the standout striker in the 2020-21 FA Youth Cup run that saw the scholars reach the third round proper, where he drew significant professional interest.

He went on to score on his first team debut in October 2021, tapping home the opener in a 2-1 FA Trophy win over Alvechurch.

Since then, the youngster has been hampered by a groin issue which has ruled him out for a considerable amount of time.

The return of both Clark and Hinds, will feel like two new signings for manager Mark Clifford and recently appointed assistant Dave Frecklington, providing several options as preparations for next season continue to take shape.
